[Vwdiesel] Clutch problems

So my Jetta had some kind of a breakdown today while my wife was driving it.
She heard a loud noise and then it wouldn't shift. She was lucky to be in a
good spot with a downhill slope into a parking lot.

When I tried checking it out it acts like either the clutch disk is severely
messed up or the throwout bearing is bad. When I go to release the clutch it
vibrates really bad and there's nasty clunking grinding noise. To make
things more fun for me I'm running a bad fever today, so after I went and
towed it home I haven't done anything else with it. Oh yeah, after I shut it
back off it acted like the clutch wasn't even there. The lever on the
transmission was moving, but the clutch wasn't engaging and it was super
easy to push the clutch pedal because it wasn't really doing anything, I
think.

So is that enough info for anyone to give me an idea of what to look for
when I get back on my feet? I've never really had to work on the clutch or
transmission, for that matter. I need to get this back on the road as soon
as possible.

Thank you!
Erik
