[Vwdiesel] Flashing glow plug light

Hi

  I got my Rabbit from my VW mechanic friend. There is a couple things still not fixed. The glow plug light flashes when driving. It will flash in between the green directional flash when you have the turn signal on. So you see green turn signal light, yellow glow plug light green turn signal light and so on.  Also it will come on when you hit the brakes. Then intermintently it just flash on occasionally when you drive down the road. Could it be something simple, like just the relay?

  The other thing is that the car starts and idles great. It drives down the road great, but after you drive down the road and you come to a stop the idle races, if you shut it off and start it again it idles fine again. My mechanic said I need the injection pump rebuilt. I was wondering if it just needs to be driven for a while, because of the car sitting for 9 years before I got it going again.
