[Vwdiesel] Question

The car is in Maryland, the body is near perfect, no rust, a couple of dings, fresh paint, perfect interior, including a new headliner, GTI wheels and excellent Michelin tires, sun roof.
Completely rebuilt "stretch bolt" motor
Head refurbished, with complete new valve job
New oil pan
New injection pump
New alternator
New radiator
New steering rack (changed to manual from P/S)
New complete exhaust system
New tie rods 
New shocks and struts
New brakes and wheel cylinders
All filters replaced
New fuel tank (old one was pitted and gummed up)
New fuel lines 
New battery
Cibie' E/C code headlights

I don't know what the total bill will be for the work now being done (engine), but unless my daughter changes her mind and takes it (doubtful), or I get out close to what I have into it, it will go into storage at my brother-in-law's barn (he collects old cars), until such a time that I may donate it to charity, (after getting it appraised as a collector car) or give it to someone truly in need.

In looking over some of my old un-read email I found a question from Walter L Herold about whether he should keep or sell an '89 VW Jetta diesel. Although he didn't say how much he had into his  '89 Jetta my guess is it would be more than $4,000. I doubt that worth out A/C that he will ever get his money out of it. Also, he didn't say what the condition of the body & interior was. My guess is if the body & interior is rough he would be lucky to get $1000 but if the cosmetics were mint, he might get $3000 or if lucky, more. He did not say what part of the country he lived in & that could play a big part in what the car would bring. If the car is in excellent condition & he wants to keep it, he could treat it as a collector car & get stated value collector car insurance from JC Taylor, Grundy or Haggerty at very low cost. What do the rest of you think? I could be wrong in this assessment.
