"Speaking of winter, at what temp should you start to use the block heater?"

I kind of look at it like this. If I need a jacket then so does my car. It won't harm it to plug it in. Just takes more electricity.

P.S. I have a frost heater on all 3 of my diesels. Terry Frost out of MN does a good job on these in line heater kits. They are 1000 Watt heaters that are plumbed into the coolant lines. As an added benefit if you leave your heater valve open in the older cars depending on the temps it will defrost your windows as the heat circulates through the heater core. He has a kit for all VW diesels 1981 and up (Except for a dasher and vans as I don't think he has had anyone come in with the vehicle to get the hoses and pipes made up for those). He got the rabbit car and truck from mine as I went it. Good kits for those wanting an operating temp car after being plugged in. tdiclub has threads on his heaters.
