[Vwdiesel] Glow plug lifespan?

My first set (01 TDI) all crapped out in the first 40k or so.  Replacements
are still going strong at almost 150k.  I suspect this had something to do
with the crappy design of the original GP harness, which has been replaced
with an updated design.
