[Vwdiesel] vw bus engine in a JD lawn tractor

Couple questions. I know nothing on air cooled gas VW engines. My father just bought a JD 140 Lawn tractor with a VW bus engine in it. My father always does write-ups on all the things we own in our tractor collection and he was wanting some info on this engine. What years would it have been made, what would the size be HP and cc (ex. 1600 cc). It has a mild cam in it and dual carburetors. Any help would be appreciated. This is the link on ebay and there is a youtube video of it running. The guy that put this in died a few years ago and the seller doesn't know much about it.
