Most likely it's like James said. However, in the case of my Jetta,
the thrust bearing had worn severly and the bearing only had been
replaced. All that metal had gone through the oil pump. Even after
a rebuild I had the same, low oil pressure until I replaced the pump.
Then I had massive smoke at startup and oil burning but that was
another issue! The cam and vacuum pum had also worn from all the
metal that had previously been in the engine.
It might be worth pulling the pan and checking but if it needs int.
bearings then the engine about has to come out to change them.
