[Vwdiesel] gasoline for frozen diesel

Just to clarify, the gasoline added is to keep the diesel fuel from
clouding when cold, and the precipitate from plugging the fuel filter by
keeping the long chain paraffins dissolved, not so much as to aid in
starting.

I had a look and Iso-heet contains isopropal alcohol, regardless of when
Wally world claims about their product, alcohol is definitely NOT
recommended for diesel fuel injection systems as an additive. Now,
there is a time when you would use isopropal alcohol, and that is when
you have no choice whatsoever, because you got a dose of water from an
underground storage tank in winter. This has happened to me- got about
a litre (quart-ish) of water in the tank, -30 at the time, and the only
way possible to get the car off the road was either on a hook, or to add
isopropal alcohol to liquify the water, so it could make it's way to the
fuel filter, and be drained off.
I chose the latter, because it's what we would do if my power unit was
stranded, and is an emergency measure only.

Using isopropal as an additive in a diesel on a continual basis is a
very bad idea from the injection pump lubrication standpoint. NEVER use
it in a common rail injection system, I don't care what wally world sez
about their product. Better to use a stanadyne product to keep water out
of your injection system, it contains better emulsifiers that maintain
pump lubrication.
