Quoting from page 96 under winter operation for my 1982 Quantum turbodiesel. "....If diesel No. 1 is not available, mix diesel fuel No.2 with up to 25% kerosene (or with regular leaded or unleaded gasoline, if Kerosene is not available).DO NOT USE PREMIUM GASOLINE". The manual then goes on to: "Caution, mixing diesel fuel #2 with kerosene or gasoline must then be done before wax starts to separate. Later mixing may be effective in the fuel tank but not the rest of the fuel system". The manual then cautions to add the kerosene or gasoline first to the fuel tank before the diesel, but never to exceed 25% kerosene or gas to the diesel mixture. Also, do not use starting fluids or any fuel additives normally used as anti-freeze additives for gasoline. ALSO NOTE: this book was written in 1982, before they started adding ethanol to gasoline. Might make a difference. Read your owners manual. What do TDI owners manuals advise re mixing gas with diesel for cold weather? Fortunately, I don't have to worry about this issue. The temperatures have been hitting the low 70s F this last week. Hope it will last.
