The head usualy warps when it has been hot. There really isn't usualy
anything wrong except for the warpage. I just loosen the cam enough that all
the valves are tight in the head and take it to my machine shop which has a
water bath belt sander for truing heads. About 30 bucks and it's ready to go
again. It is rare for a VW diesel head to a bad valve. Sometimes mostly to
make me feel good I lap the valves. Be sure to clean out the bolt holes in
the block. Failure to do so can result in a cracked block at the bolt hole.
Get new stretch bolts, a new head gasket ( I always buy the thickest
available ) clean off the top of the block and reassemble.
