Went to the local machine shop to pick up my head. He informed the head was warped 11,000th of an inch & showed me. I had measured improperly, only along the edges, so I learned something new. He measured in the center of the head & could move a 10,000th feeler gage between the straight edge where the cylinders are closest to each other. He said he could properly rebuild the head surfacing the head, doing a new valve job so the valves will still have clearance between the pistons when open. I decided to go for the full rebuild since I would otherwise have to look for another good head.
I have decided to go with the existing timing belt since it & the other belts look like new. Looks like I would have to remove the radiator shrouds & possibly the radiator to change out the belts. Thanks for the info on how to change the belts & to properly tension the timing belt' Got the new tensioner pulley today. FYI, the Quantum has about 117,000 on the odometer, which looks correct. Have a new or rebuilt water pump. Guess I will have to pull it apart to see what type of impeller blade it has, plastic, stamped, or cast iron.
