Uhhhh no. Wrong on two counts. The temperature senders are variable
resistance devices. They do not send voltage, they provide differing
resistance to ground.. Look at the wiring diagram.
ETKA shows two temperature senders for the 1600 NA diesel in a
Vanagon. One 049 919 501 for the temperature gauge and one 049 919 501
for the glow plug circuit. I suspect that the same part numbers are
applicable to all 1.6 diesels. (Yup. I just checked BusDepot. Same
sender 1974-1994 diesels. Both gauge and glow.)
The wrong relay for the type of glow plug or a failed sender will
shorten the life of your glow plugs, but the senders are the same.
