That's most of it. Pull the pushrod and roll it on a FLAT surface to
check if it's bent. Good time to check and possibly replace the
bushing just behind the engine end seal for it also. Replace that
seal either way. Check the "push plate" and make sure the hard
center piece is there and tight.
The pusher finger piece on the outboard end of the tranny can
crack and not move the full amount but that's unlikely to show up
just pushing the pushrod. It usually shows as the pedal going to
the floor, not enough clutch release and the cable tightened up
all the way.
Maybe you ended up with a "stronger" clutch than original? Although
it's hard to really tell much difference when we put the V-6 clutch in
Dad's Passat and it holds MUCH better than the TDI clutch did.
