[Vwdiesel] E/parking Brake

Just thought I would get some info together before I jump in to fix my
issue. My 1991 Jetta's emergency/parking brake broke today. It seems that
the cable on the drivers side snapped. Or at least that is what it seems.
When I pulled it up it popped and then the handle went up super high, higher
than normal. When I pulled the cover off the handle area the right cable was
pulled up with a ton of slack and I can move it by hand. The left cable is
still intact. Is it common practice for these to snap cables from
wear/corrosion or is it another item back in the wheel hub assembly that
lets go? I guess I will find out when I pull the wheels off and check. The
only thing about these vehicles that I'm not thrilled with is that you have
to deal with the bearing to get to the rear brakes. I guess it is the
nature of the beast.

Thanks,

Nick
