[Vwdiesel] Glow plug, relay,& ATF fluid

I think they switched sometime around 1980 or 1981. My 1981 Jettas
both had the fast relay, but the 1981 Rabbit had the slow one. In the
rabbits and jettas the relay sits right above the fuse block under and
behind the dash. I don't know if it's the same for a Dasher, but I
would expect it to still be near the fuse block, wherever that is. For
the 1986 I don't know - I've never had such a new fangled car... :)

Ford now calls it Mercron. I don't know the difference, either, but
those automatics are *far* too expensive to rebuild (even if you're
doing it yourself) so I've always been careful to put the fluid in
that it calls for. Never looked further into it than that.

Good luck on the 86! An unhappy wife is not a fun thing....

I think Ford now calls it Macron. There is a difference between type A & F but I don't know what it is. Amsoil makes a universal ATF fluid suitable for both GM & Ford. I think most of the independents & foreign manufacturers use Dextrin. If some one knows better, correct me.I bought the '86 Jetta & it is home. Wife very unhappy about it.
