Back in the '70s there was a type A (GM/chrysler) and F (ford) but now it's
just one, I'd suggest "Valvoline ATF Mercon/Dextron (high mileage)"
I've had nearly constant tranny problems with my '01 Ford Escape after 45k
miles, took it several times to Aamco Tansmission and had them flush it and
check it over with very limited sucess, but after I changed the ATF at 80k
miles with Valvoline ATF the problem has disappeared.
Aamco told me they use the same fluid for all transmissions only 'modifying'
it with addititives.
