I can't afford a new TDI but if you can, this might be the right time to buy, if you want a new TDI. 
First, there is a $1,300 federal income tax credit if you buy a TDI , or most hybrids. There is a quota for fuel efficient new cars but you can't get any tax credit for a Prius as they are all used up.
Second: While some VW dealers are attempting to sell new TDIs at full MSRP plus a dealer mark up, others are discounting. On the TDI Club website I saw where one dealer, in Penn. I think, was selling new TDIs at factory invoice plus an additional discount of $200 for TDI Club members. So, if in the market, do your research.
Three: Not sure but I think the new federal stimulus act has restored interest paid on new car loans. All of the above applies to USA residents. Don't know what is happening in Canada or overseas.
