[Vwdiesel] Raising a Rabbit

I"ve done it in the past with MK2 golf/Jetta front springs cut down a bit
(they will rais it something like 2.5 inches, and a second rear spring perch
with a piece of pipe between it and the bottom perch, to act as a spacer and
raise the spring up a bit. I usually only go about an inch or so, though.
This is because you are loosing downward travel on the struts as you raise
the spring on them. You also are effectively changing the suspension
geometry, and an inch or so is about all you can get away with without also
lowering the subframe and steering rack. A spacer between the body and the
top of the struts as suggested by Patrick is another way to go. That way,
you don't affect the suspension travel. However, you still are affecting the
geometry of the control arm and tie rod.

The rear is much less complicated, as it's geometry is not significantly
affected. IOW, you can easily raise the rear more than the front, but, once
again, only if you do it without affecting the travel of the strut.
Otherwise, you will have a lot of bottoming of the strut when the car is
empty.
