[Vwdiesel] 98 TDI no glow

 Thanks Tad!

I needed to hear that. Indeed it seems I was barking-up the wrong tree! I just had to be sure everything was right - which it all seems to be, but the TIMING was STILL not right!! I never could get Vag-Com to graph the timing. The engine was always too cold (wouldn't reach operating temp) and said it was too advanced to plot - no matter if it was actually too advanced or retarded. By severely rotating the pump - and not jump teeth instead - I was able to get the engine to fire-up without cycling the glow plugs. Ambient was 50F at the time and indeed did not need to glow when timed like this. I honed-in on this sweet spot, rotating the pump ever so slightly, and finally saw a cloud on the screen. My mistake was not using the full range of pump rotation and overcompensating by jumping timing belt teeth instead. Duh.

Now onto the 'manifold control pressure difference', or something like that code that keeps popping-up. I'm thinking I need to replace all of those rotting rubber lines, eh?

And, James, I hear that part about staying-up too late. But what's this auto-steering gps thing? Is that a farm joke?!

Jon
