Just a thought but maybe your pulley went out on the alternator. It is a clutched pulley that allows it to only spin in one direction (supposedly) and sometimes it can fail and not spin your alternator over at all or at least not enough to get juice. Would be a quick check by just opening your hood and seeing if everything is turning. Mine actually made a little bit of noise. Not much but it did go away after changing the pulley. If it is the pulley you need to get a wrench from metalnerd.com (same place that does the lift kits for our tdi's). Also go with a reman from a local vender. VW asks a lot for there full alternator if you need one. Only reason I know this is my pulley failed a couple weeks ago and it would drop from 14.2-.3 volts to the 13's then to the 12's for some time (up to 15 miles) and then come back on.
