[Vwdiesel] payload capacity

I bet my stock vanagon would get to 70 if it were geared differently.... To get the full diesel vanagon experience, put a Jetta or rabbit diesel in 3rd gear, stop using 4th and 5th, and drive around for a few days... That's what limits the diesel vanagons.

Comments like that confuse me a bit. A stock 48hp non turbo 1.6 VANAGON
will make it up to 65 on the flat and weighs 2,000 lbs more than a caddy
with double the frontal area and wind resistance of a big brick. My '86
non-turbo 1.6 jetta would go 85 on flat ground with pedal left over and
routine cruising speed was 75+ on the freeway with two adults, a child and
all the rest of the space in the car filled with stuff.
