[Vwdiesel] The importance to lining up oil pump gears with markings on ea...

Well, no way it is intermediate shaft bearing causing this oil pressure loss on this motor. The motor only has like 35K on it all in all.
Injectors were new with the engine, these sounds seem like they are coming from deep down in the motor and with the oil pressure drop I was seeing, that tells me main bearings have spun. I did not see any coolant or particals of metal in the oil when I drained some into a dish to examine before dumping it all in preps. to remove the motor.
Coolant has no oil in it either.
I has gotten 29.5MPG on my last trip, that is really good for a Vanagon.
All seemed to be preforminng properly, good power as well for the first 500 miles after swapping oil pumps.

That kind of knocking CAN be caused by bad injector/s. Will just
found that out. Oil pressure drop is usually from non replaced int
shaft bearings.
Not quite sure what you mean by lining up the gears. You do need
to always be sure the drive shaft slot and tab properly engage so that
the oil pump will turn but I don't recall mesh/timing marks on the
gears themselves. Even so, it would continue to pump oil, just perhaps
less efficiently and the pump might wear but the oil filter should catch
the wear particles and so long as you don't drive it with no pressure,
the mains should survive fine and you'd just need to replace the oil
pump.
Ahhh, just realized what the "mail" bearings are! "L" typo for an "N".
:-D
Maybe it's just something with the oil pump AND a bad injector or
two instead of bearings? :-)
