Well, I think I have the starting problems solved. Coasted down a small hill last Sun. & got it started in that manor. I let it sit until today & was able to get it started.cold start cable in cold start position. Took a couple try's but got it started. However it doesn't start quick like my Citroen CX diesel & Rockwood diesel pusher motorhome (Cummings engine).
Today I traded my 1986 VW Jetta for a big 1983 Mercedes 300 SD that has been converted to run on waste vegetable oil. Along with the Jetta I gave him a resealed IP I had bought from the Parts Place in Auburn Hills, Mich along with parts to rebuild the shift linkage. He is a young man who is interested in diesels so I told him I would refer him to this discussion group. He made it most of the way up to my place but had to be towed the rest of the way. I think part of the problem was his battery was old-6 years old. May be some other issues such as glow plugs, plugged injectors, poor ground cable. The Jetta was in primer, had a cracked windshield, & was missing the back bumper which he should be able to find at pick a part in Sacramento. The Jetta IP did something strange. Once started the RPM would go up & down without touching the throttle. Wonder what caused this?
