Yes it would have shown it if the valve was not closing all the way. A
cylinder leak down test is more accurate to show cylinder health.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] compression test
Looking for response with those who have actually done engine issues with a
compression test.
My son has a 5.7L (350cu.) Vortec GM gas engine that he did a compression
test on, some one had said that they
had similar symptoms (ruff running intermittently when completely warmed up)
and after removing their cyl. heads found
a they had found a bent valve on #4 cylinder (only slightly, I'd guess),
they didn't say whether they had done a compression test or not.
We have done a compression test all cylinders at 148 to 155 psi, I'm
thinking the mechanical have to be GOOD.
My question is;
IF THERE IS a bent (bad) valve in THIS engine the compression test would
have shown low compression, wouldn't it ?
Thanks
Brian
