I don't know of any oil company that offers the variety of synthetic oils that Amsoil does. Amsoil makes a "Synthetic 5W-40 European Motor Oil" that meets VW Specifications 502.00, 505.00, & 505.01. I have an older catalog which shows the per quart retail price of $7.60 & a 12 quart case at $90 (stock # AFL-01). Use of this particular oil should satisfy VW's warranty requirements. I am an Amsoil dealer so if you want this oil you can phone (800)956-5695 between 7 AM & 5 PM Central time & use my dealer or order number of ZO#2185. This price is from an older catalog so prices may have gone up a bit. They also take all the major credit cards & most likely, you will receive your order in 2 working days.
I am currently running Amsoil's "SAE 15w-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine Oil" in my '82 Quantum turbodiesel at a cost of $6.80 a quart or $80.40 a 12 qt case (stock # AME-01).
I have been a dealer since 1974 but primarily to get oil for my own cars. My daily driver is a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 5 speed & I have used Amsoil's "series 2000 Synthetic 0w-30 Motor oil" at a cost of $9.95 a quart or $118.20 for a 12 qt case (stock #TSO-01). I have been able to drive between 17,000 & 23,000 miles between oil & filter changes. The Focus now has over 126,000 miles on it. In July, I made a trip in this Focus from Calif. to Mich. & return to Calif., changing the oil a month before the trip. The dip stick is still above the full mark with not a drop added since I changed the oil last June. There are probably many other good synthetic oils out there but Amsoil has pioneered in synthetic oils since 1972 & probably has a greater selection of synthetic lubricants than any other oil company. I don't know why they have such a huge selection of synthetic oils & lubricants other than to satisfy individual manufacture's warranty requirements, especially the new diesels with catalytic converters & particulate traps. If you have further interest in Amsoil's various products I would suggest you visit their excellent website, www.amsoil.con .
I also use their universal automatic transmission fluid, gear lube, air & oil filters.
