[Vwdiesel] New Beetle TDI timing belt replacement

We (the bug owner, another friend and myself) are about to tackle 
replacing the timing belt in a 2000 TDI bug. I and the friend have 
experience doing TDI timing belts in golfs and jettas, but we have heard 
some "rumors" about some added twists when doing this job in a bug.

Can anyone shed any light on what additional work is involved with new 
beetles? Does one really need to remove a fender?
