If you push it down to *just* under the ridge you may find quite a bit more
wear than you realize.
Most of the wear occurs in the last 1/2 inch at the top; just before the
ridge.

P.S. About 2 inches of 3" diameter PVC split on the side with a hose clamp;
works great as a ring compressor (cover only the rings; not the piston
skirt) Crappy spring steel, band types don't work.
