[Vwdiesel] Unusual tire wear question

  Well, if it's out, the steering wheel could be off center and still be 
out equally on both sides.  If the wheel was right, it may have been 
off some time back (befor you?) and someone put the steering wheel 
on straight once the toe out equalized so the car was going straight.
  Camber IS usually adjustable.  You just may have to loosen the 
ball joint bolts, wonky out their holes a little or put "camber bolts" 
in place of the non-eccentric strut to steering knuckle bolts.
