[Vwdiesel] Valve adjustment WAS: low compression

Finally getting to valve adjustment (82 diesel vanagon) - started on #3
cylinder, the one with low compression measures.

The valves clearance measures too close (.06mm on the intake, and can't get
my smallest feeler through on the exhaust; should be 0.2 to 0.3 intake and
0.4 to 0.5 exhaust).

The adjusting disc I pulled out of both exhaust and intake was a 2.90mm, the
smallest disc that Bentley lists is 3.00mm.  Obviously they come smaller,
but how much?  the smallest I have is 3.00, so I'll have to call around
tomorrow to see if anyone has 2.7mm's and 2.5mm's?  How thin do they come,
or is that a problem in itself, that the clearances are so small?
