I have a new one coming in today, though someone elsewhere told me that they were slightly different shapes, so I will take the old one and compare.

I got the bushings out fairly easily yesterday. Used a 9mm tap (the 7/16 one looked way too big) to cut threads into the bushing, then backed it out. Then I laid a piece of angle iron across the face of the transmision and put the tap through a drilled hole and screwed it back into the bushing. It pulled right out.

For the second bushing, I found that using the rear transmission mount in a similar way (but inside the bellhousing as the tap wasn't long enough to reach that far in) as the angle iron worked great.

I also went ahead and bougt a cap, rotor, and plugs along with an air filter and set of belts and valve cover gasket. I noticed the engine was covered with oil from the valve cover down, including the timing belt (and it was pretty loose) so that is all getting replaced.

This means I won't have a slipping clutch, I won't have squealing belts with the a/c on, and I should get better mileage. All in all, it should be a much more pleasant car to drive.

The project was inspired by the possibility of swapping the car for a Landrover Discovery, which I have had my eye on. But if that doesn't work out, I'll still like the car better and that will be nice.

Aah, defferred maintainance... ;)
