[Vwdiesel] Fw: Injector Lines

They aren't brittle Stephen, they are made of an excellent high quality
ductile steel that is tough as a pig's nose. Vibration work hardens the
lines over time, and they will crack, hence the clamps to keep them from
vibrating. If they break, they were vibrating, no arguing with results. When
you reinstall them, do something different, put the clamp in a different
spot, add a clamp, or even just add some weight to the vibrating part, to
change it's harmonic, effectively damping the vibration to a non-destructive
level.
Proper welding is just fine too, as long as good heat control is exercised
and some attention is paid to the final hardness (heat treat) of the tubing
to stress relieve the welded portion. I would weld it in a second, without
a moment's hesitation. If you can't get one, pm me and send it to me, I'll
weld it same day and send it back to you. Brazing is for cast iron, and for
sissies that are scared of red steel. I have welded many many injector lines
and steel hydraulic lines out of necessity (like parts are a week away
during harvest kind of necessity) Easy peasey. Use a non-chlorinated
degreaser, and get it welded locally if you can find a welder that will do
it. Get him to reheat the part to a moderate red as viewed in normal room
lighting with a slightly carbonizing flame (until the steel is no longer
attracted to a magnet) and wrap it in a bat of fiberglass insulation to cool
to effect a good heat treat. Just don't bend it when you wrap it up.
Burying it in dry sand is okay too. Don't fuss with it until it's cool.
