Have not owned a TDI. It is one of my dreams, I guess. Did you replace the timming belt yourself, or did someone else do it? Did you replace the timming belt tensioner? Beyond that, I can't help but wish I could. I suspect there is a poor connection or ground somewhere. My experience has a poor connection or ground has been a problem with many of my old cars, that were never designed to last that long. Now these new cars, I fear, will become a real electronic nightmare when they get older. Maybe, someday, the computers in cars will get good enough to tell you what needs to be repaired or replaced. I understand these OBD 2 code readers are just that, they give you a trouble code & it is up to the mechanic to diagnose what might be causing the trouble code. I have an OBD 2 code reader which I use on my Focus. There are times when the check engine lite comes on & after reading the code, will erase it so the check engine lite goes off. My guess is if it was an intermittent problem, the lite wouldn't come on until the problem re occurs. Sometimes a poor batch of gas can cause it. The check engine lite hasn't been on for over a year. Knock on wood.
I am still trying to sort out the problems with my Quantum & suspect an improperly rebuilt IP. Now I am sidelined with "walking pneumonia".
