It seems to be widely accepted that the TDI engine doesn't need a cold air ram intake as the stock is plenty for that small of an engine. Plus the air gets pulled from the front of the grill. The cold air part matters more to the US vehicles that pull the air from the engine bay (or the older 1.6 na engines. Roger has a cold air ram intake on his but that is different-no turbo and stock does pull engine bay air. So that is a mod that is actually kind of worthless from what most have said. Better to increase your intercooler part of the intake or the turbo before any off that. You also have to be careful of the MAF sensor because any oil from a filter and any dirt will cause issues. As for modding the 09 and newer cars. It is still in the air on what can be done with out messing up the expensive exhaust. If you take the stock exhaust off you won't be legal in a lot of places either with the rules on the 07 and latter diesels. Not as big of an issue in my state but some states it matters and may carry a fine if caught. If you reflash the computer you might plug it too. I know on tdiclub I have read some people plugging there exhausts after trying a tune. They are still working the bugs out of the tunes for the newer engines. Also they come with so much stock HP a lot of people are content with the HP on them. My father is. I am not with my 04 but my father has about 40 more stock hp then me (I have since chipped and once I get the gauges I will put my PD150 injectors in with a 2.5 exhaust). I am also saving for a drop in 6 spd tranny that someone is fabbing from a 5 spd case so you don't have to change the clutch and axles like before and it will have a better 6th and 1st gear.

I did put a 2.5 inch exhaust on my rabbit with the 1.9 TD aaz engine. Techtonics make a good exhaust. I had to have someone connect the stock down pipe to the exhaust. Some day I may ad and intercooler on it but the car has so much power already that I don't know if I want the extra hoses and work involved in the engine area. I think I would do the Giles pump first and then the intercooler. Money and time is what I need though and student loans are hear to stay for about 9 more years.
