Hello, list! first time poster here. I've had this little problem for some
time, hoping you volks can help me out:
the vehicle: '83 vanagonL, '83 1.6TD from a quantum (CY engine)
the problem: i'm missing almost all the little spacers to mount the timing
belt cover. the rubber grommets are readily available, but i've inquired far
and wide about the metal bits to no avail.
the story:
the dude (supposedly he was a mechanic) who put the engine in left a legacy
of stupid little ...i'll call them learning opportunities. the well-meaning
friends of mine who got it from him tackled some projects, decided they
could not put the love into the van that it required, and passed it on to me.
they are not sure whether the hardware was there before they had the timing
done or not, but they exposed the belt themselves before it went to the
mechanic and no one made it clear to them that leaving the cover off of
these is not the best idea. by the time i got the van, that hardware was
looong gone.
SO
i would love to hear that someone here has a spare set on a parts motor that
they'd like to sell me, i would even be thrilled to have a picture of the
pieces and a description of where they go and how the cover is properly
mounted so i can make m'self a set. i tried stacking washers once, but i
couldnt get a satisfying result.
my slow crawl up the list has brought me to the valve cover gasket/check cam
timing/replace timing belt/rebuilt injectors/fix internal IP pressure/etc.
phase, so i'd really like to protect my nice new belt.
any advice/help is MUCH appreciated! thanks for being here, guys! community
is essential!
