Rolf,

A couple a years ago I traded for a '01 Jetta with a broken rod , after I
got a used engine in, it all worked fine but was definitely missing some
power (compared to my '04 Jetta) drove it about a hundred miles (great
mileage) before I found that I had missed a vacuum line (along the firewall)
such a little thing made a big difference. I was also surprised because I
had double and triple checked those lines. Also check for 'soft' or
collapsed lines.

imho,
with that being the pipe disconnected  there is no possible way that caused
any damage, much less any serious damage, even if it was that way for a
couple hundred miles.
