Thanks for the input brian! I see what you are saying, but the rear main
seal looks really good. As far as getting the engine back on the input
shaft, I know its going to be an uphill battle but I think I can get it
done. It looks like the cv goes back in and is solid once installed again,
so I will check it once the car is back together

To remove, you had the mounts disconnected then right? Its a lot less work
in my estimation swinging the whole engine/trans at an angle at once, but im
all about freedom, so if your way works, get at it, but getting the diff
over the block while being nice to the splined hub on the clutch disk'll
be difficult at best.
Im unsure what you mean by knuckle. Im only thinking of 3 scenarios.
1. you didnt unbolt XZN's and pulled the axle out with the inner flange.
2. you unbolted the CV but it was stuck on there and you pulled the boot off
with the shaft.
3. you pulled off the axle shaft with the whole inner CV Axle dismantling
itself in the process..
or something along those lines.. if you fubar'd a snap ring or circlip your
gonna want a CV rebuild kit or axle flange seal kit which really would be
good to do now anyway. even on a budget its not that much more.
and if your thinking that installation will be opposite of removal.. well, I
wouldnt be that confident. That trans either needs to be attached to the
engine and then installed or install the engine, then trans. having the
trans in the bay while installing the engine is a ridiculos comedy I would
pay to watch. ... not being a dick, just candid.
a rear main seal might be a good idea if youve installed them before. if its
relatively clean better leave well enough alone.
