[Vwdiesel] Must face the music on a coolant leak I guess

Cool, I can dig up another A2 style expansion tank cap and swap it to see if
that could be part of the problem.

The cap I have is the blue large screw kind, I have to use a pair of large
plyers to get the sucker off with finger strength.

Oh, for $450 I will just buy a new one with my next order.
How could anything go wrong with this cap, it seems to be solid plastic, the
tank does have a blow off hose, maybe that is where it is going?

Is this what you are talking about.

Hi Bryan;
I think Loren has the most logical answer and that is a cap not
holding the correct pressure. With a VW plastic water cap  the thought is
not is it going to fail to hold the correct pressure but when is it going to
fail to hold the correct pressure. I have found that usually a mysterious
slow water loss is the fault of a faulty cap.

For some time now, over a year, my coolant continues to disappear at
a fairly
slow rate.  I have to add about a pint every 4-6 weeks.
I have not been able to find any puddles under the car, no smell of coolant
lose.  I felt it had to have been my rad as it is orig. and there is signs
of
some seeping.  But again, minor drips that seem to be trans fluid anyway,
not
anti-freeze, no smell.  I guess I should be tracking this.

So, could the coolant be getting burned up in a cylinder head gasket leak?
No bubbles in coolant exp. tank.
No signs of oil in coolant ever.
Temp are fairly steady, the range between the first

If it is this, I can just keep running it like this until it eventually gets

worse?

 thanks
