[Vwdiesel] thread about coomon problems per era of tdi

i seem to remember there being a post about some of the common problems associated with each generation of volkswagen diesel engine. im about to buy a 96 jetta tdi and it sounds terrible. was wondering if this was the engine that commonly had front seal end of crankshaft issues?thanks
