[Vwdiesel] engine rebuild question

You cannot bend a valve, following procedure. Someone made a big cock-up 
'Work experience' kid perhaps?

At the least, grinding the ridges down, deglazing , and installing new rings 
of the same oversize, would improve compression, anywhere from a little to a 
lot, if old rings were worn significantly.
If it ran yesterday then it will run tomorrow better...
