I just got one back from a rebuild. It was close to $550 with shipping.
I haven't checked the invoice but he said the cam plate was "going"
so they put in a good used one (to keep the cost down) and he'd
mentioned something about the input shaft also so maybe that as
well, since it was about $80 more than the last one.
Just resealing a pump is one thing. Being able to identify failing
parts is another but not a big step. Then you have to be able to
get the parts, again, not hard if you get along well with a Bosch
rebuilder. Then you need to keep it clean, know the specs and finally,
be able to properly set and calibrate everything. Those test stands
aren't cheap. Checking and injector is nothing compared to setting
up a pump and that simple task can get annoying at times when
injectors don't cooperate!
