Well I've gone and done it, I purchased a 91 VW 1.8l Jetta GT

Yes it is gas, but me and the wife hope to rectify that, this was just the
closest we could get to an old school Jetta for our budget

Anybody have a spare 1.6l NA or TD? I will pay for shipping etc. Then I can
sell the 1.8l GT engine and be happily puttering in a Jetta again!
