Reply to Mark Shepherd & others. I temporarily gave up working on my Quantum to work on other projects: new water pumps on my 1941 Ford, the old ones were leaking. Then on my 1947 Hudson Commodore 8. Switched bumpers, reinstalled the heater, new fuel pump & more.
Last Friday while returning from the Sacramento Auto Show (new 2011 cars) a deer ran in front of my 2001 Ford Focus totaling it, but fortunately I had comprehensive coverage which covers the loss. However I expect to repair the Focus with used parts for about $350 or less. Needs new headlights, hood (bonnet in UK), grill, & right fender. I found out the insurance proceeds were enough to buy a 1983 Mercedes 300SD with only 126,000 miles & looks like a new car inside & out. It drives like a new car too. Thank all of you for the Mercedes advice to stay away from the 6 cylinder diesels. I haven't given up on the Quantum & will return to it once I get some of my other projects done, or when someone shows up who will help me fix the starting problem.
