I have been using it for years, it works great for me.  Apparently it was
initially designed for airplanes.

Works fantastic above about 40mph, rain just runs off, you don't need wipers
at all even in the heaviest rain (I live on Vancouver Island, know what rain
is like).  Lower speeds, not so good but acceptable.  Snow seems to slide
off easier too.  Doesn't seem to make any difference when you get freezing
rain or ice overnight, still gotta scrape that off.

The only downfall is that you get a bit more glare.

+1 for Rain-X, although I've never tried it in very cold weather.
