  Reality is that vinyl remains soft due to plasticisiers, which tend to 
"evaporate" 
over time.  The only thing I know of that actually softens vinyl, rather 
than just 
make it look softer would be something that in a little stronger 
concentration 
would be a solvent of said vinyl!  Most of those are fairly volatile so 
they won't 
remain in the vinyl for long.  :-(
