I have learned that for V-belts, any belt other than Continential/Conti
has been in one way or another, unsatisfactory. Using Conti's I have never
had a premature failure, without some other mitigating factors.
While I tend to not be a brand-name person, I use Conti belts for all
my VWs. Since 1976, I've run VW diesels, and I have never had a timing
belt fail, or appear to get close to fail.
Your mileage may vary.
I have used Dayco timing belts in various Chrysler minivans, with no
failures, since 1991. I don't think that the gasser timing belt applications
are as demanding as the light diesel timing belt applications, however.
Opinion only.
