[Vwdiesel] a3 -> a1 pedal cluster swap

Hello there!

I've got a 1998 Jetta TDi which won't pass NH inspection because of
body rust. The plan is to move the motor to a 1982 Rabbit. I'm trying
to bring as much of the Jetta over as possible because the Rabbit has
a fair shell but not much else. For example, I got a free pair of vice
grips with the car! They were attached to the rear brake line and had
rusted solid. So the Jetta has good rear drums and as I understand,
the spindles will move over nicely. I all ready bought O2A
transmission mounts too.

So because the Rabbit has broken brakes and I'll need a hydraulic
clutch for the O2A and the electronic gas pedal for the TDi, I'd like
to move the whole pedal cluster over. I finally got all the wiring out
(didn't need to cut anything! labeled everything!) and noticed that
the firewall where the pedals are can be unbolted! So I took the bolts
out, but it seems like the thing is sealed on pretty good. Current
plan is to sawzall a bigger section out, then when I can get some
actual leverage, pull/pry/whatever the plate off the rest of the
firewall, cross my fingers and try and line it up in the rabbit, cut a
big hole and bolt/glue/epoxy it in.

Is this reasonable? Has anyone done similar? Has anyone done a full
TDi+O2A swap and kept the hydraulic clutch? Besides wiring, the pedal
cluster is my biggest concern. If this can work I will be very very
excited. I'm dropping the A/C and power steering.

Speaking which, I have some parts if anyone is interested. A/C
compressor/radiator. Was working great when I pulled it 2 months ago.
Driver and passenger air bags. Power steering pump. Anything else not
involved in the swap. Real cheap if you're willing to pick it up. I'm
not interested in shipping anything but hate to see it go to waste. I
live in Troy NY and the car is near Kingston NY.
