[Vwdiesel] Not Diesel, 70 VW bug motor install not going in...

It's not enough to stick the alignment tool in, you have to look from the end, and be sure the disk is centered.  THe cheap plastic alignment tools allow too much movement hither and yon.   The description you give points to the disk not lined up right.
