[Vwdiesel] Swap earlier TDI in '04 Jetta?

I blew my PD engine belt a couple months ago and found
http://www.metalmanparts.com had a complete NEW head w/cam and lifters
for several hundred less that most places.
$1750 but they don't list it now.
I'd ask, they didn't stock it when i got mine.
I have a PD ('04) and a ALH ('01), the PD is noticeably quietier and there
is no IP timing to mess with.

I'm looking at a 2004 Jetta TDI with a blown timing belt. In the event the
repairs exceed the cost of a good used engine, how easy is it to swap an
earlier TDI into an '04 (which has the PD engine). It's a 5 speed if that
matters. I assume the electronics are quite different from '03 to '04...
