[Vwdiesel] Audi Quantum engine mounts

I wonder if there are any inline experts here able to help me, please?

There basically appears to be 4 different varieties of engine mounting.
893 199 381B 'black' Either side manual, and Auto up to Chassis 325 2054 338
893 199 381C 'Green' RHS Auto, L/RHS manual +A/c
893 199 381D Blue LHS From chassis 325 2054 339 Auto
893 199 382D RHS Auto +A/C

I think by 1987, diesels used B's, except C's on RHS Auto, and 382D's on RHS Auto +A/C 

I recently bought 4 mountings, 3 'B's and one B/C which is far stiffer than the B's. All are painted green though. 
My questions are, is softer better for the diesel, and what is the best orientation for the mounting, or could it be better to turn one 90 degrees relative to the other.
