Personally, were it me Bryan, I would keep the 04 for a bit. My opinion is they ruined the Jetta.
I had a 2010 Jetta tdi sedan on order before they were even available, fully loaded. It took from model release date until june 2011 for the dealer to call me that it was in - the excuse was that the leather took so much longer. I know the leather took longer (dec production), but I suspect they sold my car a few times first, before calling me. That annoyance aside, I went to another dealership much before that time, drove the exact same car I had ordered in a different color, and it was quite a disappointment. The seats were not that comfortable, the rear seats were horrible. The rear passengers really get screwed over in the new jetta. Since my girls travel with us a lot, that is a deal breaker for me. NOTHING sucks like having a car of whiny kids that are uncomfortable sitting in a salad bowl designed by some artist that has never travelled in a car for more than 10 minutes. I vividly remember travelling in the 91 extended cab chevy 4X4 with the rear bench seat. I know that seat sucked, was horrible, and the reason I moved up in trucks for the kids. Okay, the duramax had a lot to do with it.... lol....
BUT, your 04 Jetta is a creampuff compared to the 2010 jetta. It's like I was driving an early standard golf comparing it to a Passat. So what if the dash isn't soft. Like I care about flappy paddle shifters. I plunk my ass down and drive 3 to 5 hours everywhere, I live in the prairies where miles and miles separate everything. Good skiing is 9 hours away... The car has to be COMFORTABLE. I really don't give a crap about seat side bolsters, and the sort of rallyesque kind of "sport" idea of a seat. I have a real race car for that, don't need to be 5 pointed into an artistic impression of an uncomfortable full containment rally seat so I can bask in the discomfort of stiff side bolsters poking into my butt cheeks, congratulating myself on the purchase and how well the seat holds me in the bends, just give me a comfy plush seat for crying out loud. The suspension is stiff, probably that "sport" thing again, handling was fine, the gearbox was acceptable, but the car screamed cheap with expensive icing. So much unlike the vw I'm used to of the past. If I want to drive a Neon, I'll buy one.
I do however have a 2012 Pasatt on order, at the other dealership where they lie just slightly less, with a delivery date of Sept 1. We'll see how that measures up, I'm promised by the sales droid that drove it during dealer education days (in between beers) that it has the same comfort level as the A5 and B5.5. That would be fine with me. It's also supposed to be able to do near 60mpg imperial, something the B5.5 hasn't been able to accomplish going downhill with a tailwind.

First I say crazy $$, but maybe not that bad.

Base Jetta Wagon, gasser, 5 speed manual trans is $21K, $22,095 for 6 speed auto. 23-30mpg

Jetta Wagon SE with 6 speed auto trans is $23,745 23-30mpg	* Touchscreen Premium VIII sound system with MP3– and WMA–compatible in–dash 6–disc CD changer, and 10 speakers
	* V–Tex leatherette seating surfaces

Jetta Wagon TDI with 6 speed manual trans is $25K 2.0 140HP 30-41mpgJetta Wagon TDI with 6 speed auto DSG trans is $26,095 2.0 140HP 30-42mpg
Extras, 115V outlet, rear side airbags, sunroof.

Two things I have read about the new JEtta, WAY cheaped down on interior to keep cost down, so the SE model must bring the intior back up to
what the A4 body had. Touch screen for radio, big whop, and leatherett seats. not heated.

When I ordered my 2004 TDI, you got the GLS interior for sure, I got heated leather seats, sunroof, no options.

I will keep my 04 with 137K and 100hp motor that yeilds me 50mpg is I keep her at 65mph most of the time. Mine was like $22.5K

Has anyone on this list purchased the A5 body style TDI wagon yet? I don't mean to say it is a bad buy, just a bit much for me.
